Broken Bubble - Variety

Well, Broken Bubble have done it again. They've delved deep into their extensive list of producers, and uncovered a few newer names to put out a compilation that sums up their label completely.

Variety is a 22-track monster selection, with tracks from bigger names like Sorrow, Gravious and Sina alongside the lesser known Bija, Lykta, myself Budeaux and Davwuh, and Night Tracks' designer, Kelle.

As you've probably come to expect from Broken Bubble, expect the unexpected. A lot of the tracks picked by the man with impeccable taste, label head Cogidubnus (whose own track with Sipp, Masque, makes an appearance) aren't necessarily indicative of the producers' typical sound.

For example, those expecting garage of the moody and dusty form from Kelle or Sorrow, instead get a couple of laid-back, sample-heavy pieces that are far removed from their standard, and that's something Broken Bubble should be commended on. Since their first release, it seems they've been dedicated to digging below the underground, and picking out those pieces from the leftfield, even when challenging artists to go beyond their comfort zone.

Variety is out now, and available from the Broken Bubble bandcamp page as a name-your-price download.

As someone that's put out name-your-price downloads, I can tell you, mastering isn't cheap, so if you can, give a little back to a label that has been solidly putting out the tunes-you-didn't-know-you-loved since day one.

Big up. A release I can honestly say I'm very proud to be a part of.
